World Glaucoma Day 17th March 2012

In an effort to combat one of the leading causes of preventable blindness worldwide, KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s eye centre Pusat Pakar Mata Centre for Sight actively involved in the official World Glaucoma Day through free eye screening, raising awareness and educational events on 17th March 2012 at PJ eye centre.

Known as “the sneak thief of sight” glaucoma is characterized by gradual loss of vision due to high intra-ocular pressure killing the optic nerve with permanent loss of vision resulting in blindness. Early detection is the key to treating and halting the effects of Glaucoma.

Pusat Pakar Mata Centre for Sight truly understands that it is crucial to educate people about the value of early detection. For a disease that causes permanent blindness, it is truly unacceptable that so many people remain unaware of its impact and consequences. Visual disability has far reaching implications, touching on all aspects of human developments – social, economic and quality of life.

This event saw a strong attendance from the community. Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Md. Sharif presented on ‘Don’t Loose Sight On Glaucoma’ to educate the guests on the importance and prevention of glaucoma. To ensure that the community were well equipped with some basic knowledge on glaucoma after the presentation, a fun quiz was brought out to public. Apart from glaucoma related presentation, Oculoplastic Surgeon, Dr. Zurina Zainal Abidin shared the types of common oculoplastic surgery performed in the centre as well.

As an appreciation, the guests were treated to refreshment and walked away with goodies bag. We are proud and glad that we can make a difference to the lives of the community.
