Healthy Vision Open day 9th June 2012

In conjunction with KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s Eye Centre Pusat Pakar Mata Centre For Sight “Healthy Vision Open Day”, optometrists in Pusat Pakar Mata Centre For Sight conducted eye check for 106 children at Agathians Shelther, Rumah Impian, Rumah Hope and Praise Emmanuel Children Home on 9th June 2012.

This corporate social responsibility program initiative is a collaboration effort with Bersatu Optometry to support for the prescriptive glasses for the children. Some 28 children between ages of three and 16 have their vision improved after prescriptive glasses were given to them. Aimed at creating awareness in eye health for the children, K. Darshini, aged 11 from Rumah Hope was selected as winner for “Healthy and Beautiful Eyes” contest.

Dr. Choong Yean Yaw, Medical Director of Pusat Pakar Mata Centre for Sight explained that Children's vision care is essential to every child's development. Having a good vision will not only make a difference in their academic performance, but also their quality of life. Dr. Choong strongly encouraged Malaysian parents to bring their children for routine eye checks, minimal once a year. Early detection of nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism is vital in order to be promptly treated with eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Free eye check in the eye centre was available for public school going children from 12pm – 3pm. As part of the program, the children were treated to KFC lunch and goodie bags of multivitamin syrups and chewable vitamin C packs were given to the four children homes.

An educational eye care talk was conducted by Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dr. Lai Voon Ping. Other activities such as Optical Illusions games, Science Funology, Fun Quiz, Entertaining Upin and Ipin and caricature drawings were organized by the Centre for the children on that day as well.
